Professor for a Day
Colton Bubela gives back to Texas A&M Agribusiness College.
Colton Bubela jumped at the chance to be "Professor For A Day" for Texas A&M College of Ag Entrepreneurship in November 2024. The Agribusiness students were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at what the early days of business ownership are like. Colton shared that his daily motto is "Slowly gettin' better at barely gettin' by" that has helped him make the slow, steady progress to create the life and businesses he loves since he graduated from the school 7 years ago.
The talk was the last of a series of presentations for the Fall 2024 Joseph B. Swinbank '74 Seminar Series for the Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program. When Colton went through his AGEC 425 coursework at A&M, his project was a tree farm he had started before he enrolled at Texas A&M. He wanted to make the tree farm the foundation of a multi-faceted business.
Colton shared five things with AGEC 223-423-424 students that entrepreneurs need to be successful (in order):
- Faith — including in yourself
- Passion — "I love trees!"
- A great partner/spouse — Bubela credits his wife for their business success
- A great lender
- Community involvement — especially when you are in a rural community
Colton and wife, Morgan, have only begun creating the businesses that serve the community and excite them about getting up everyday, but they are well on their way with Bubela Tree Farm & Arbor Care, The B Haus (a nursery and gift shop featuring local artisans), and co-ownership of Freyburg Hall.
